Birthday Fun

I have just had the best birthday this year! The actual day was yesterday but I've been celebrating for the past two days. The day started with a Happy Birthday text from my oldest daughter, Missy. Then she took me to lunch at the best Asian restaurant and gave me money to go shopping. It was so nice to spend time with her which we don't get to do very often these days.

In the evening I went to dinner with Stephany, my youngest daughter. We went to Red Robin so I could use my free burger coupon. The food was so good and we had so much fun. After that we went to do a little shopping at Walgreens and I got new makeup with my birthday money.

Today I went to visit my friend Elodie who lives about 45 minutes north of here. When I arrived the dining room table was filled with presents - bath and body goodies which I just love. I know, I make them but I still love to get them too! I also got to take home a bouquet of roses from her rose garden! She took me to lunch at a little bakery in Castle Rock. We had clam chowder and sandwiches for lunch then took home a birthday cake for her husband and I (his birthday was on May 5th). She even had our names put on the cake - I brought the wedge home with my name on it as I was too full from lunch to eat it. But one of the best parts of the day was getting to meet Tessa, Elodie's English Bulldog puppy. Is this not just the cutest face you've ever seen (Tessa's, not mine)?

I just fell in love with Tessa! It's been a long time since I've been around a puppy - they just smell so good, puppy breath and all. I really did try to sneak her home in my tote bag but Elodie was watching me like a hawk!! Guess I'll have to try the next time I go visit.

Now I need to go take a rest as I'm worn out from all the celebrating!!

Lazy Sunday

It's been a lazy Sunday around here. The temperature is about 84 and when it's that hot I'm staying inside in the A/C. Steph and I did venture out to get a cool drink but that's the only time I've left the house.

I've come to realize that I'm a definite nester. My best days are when I don't have to leave my house at all. I could probably live in the country, go to town about once a week, and be a happy camper.

Next week will be busier with my school stuff, Steph's school stuff, and more house cleaning. Last week I took Steph's room apart and cleaned it from top to bottom. How can teenagers be so piggy when it comes to their rooms? I also cleaned my upstairs bathroom. This week I will work in my room and then I'm tackling the downstairs. I hate to get started cleaning but then when I'm in the middle of it and finally get it done it feels so good!

I hope to get some flowers and some veggies planted in pots this next week too. My patio looks so bare! I found some really nice Patio Tomato plants at Albertsons and I'm going to get 2 of them. Red geraniums will be in order too and a begonia for my front porch.

Hope you all have had a wonderful Sunday!! Have a good week next week!

Hugs,
Kay

My Visitor

I was upstairs in my bedroom doing homework and I heard a Dove cooing. I looked out my bedroom window and there was one sitting in the tree! Look closely and you can make him out in the "V" of the branch on the left side of the picture. Sorry the picture quality isn't better - I was shooting through the screen while leaning over my dresser!

Get Your Feet Ready For Summer

I'll start this with a disclaimer - that is not my foot! I wish mine looked that good!

I'm sharing a quick beauty tip that will get your feet ready for summer in no time. My tootsies haven't been looking too great after a winter of being closed up in socks and shoes. This last weekend I made a salt scrub and have been using it on my feet every morning in the tub. I'll do this for at least two weeks and then will maintain my perfectly scrubbed tootsies by using it about twice a week. Always follow the scrub with a lotion or balm of some sort - I use my Herbal Salve or Lotion Bar. Don't forget to massage the lotion into the cuticles of your toes. If you shower before bed just put a pair of socks on your feet after rubbing in the lotion. Since I do mine in the morning I put a pair of socks on for about 15 minutes to let the lotion soak in.

Here's my recipe for a quick and easy salt scrub that you can do at home. It's non-slick so you won't be slipping in the tub or shower.

In a small stainless steel mixing bowl add 1/2 cup sea salt. Add to that about 1/2 tsp oil - I used sweet almond but olive oil would be great too. Then add a nice thick shower gel in your favorite scent and mix. Keep adding shower gel until the salt becomes a thinner paste consistency. Put into a pretty jar and enjoy! The nice thing about using a pre-made shower gel is that you don't have to scent or color the scrub - the gel does it for you. After sitting for 24 hours the scrub will get thick but that's ok.

Just scoop out a small amount and rub on your feet to remove dry skin and callouses. Note: if you are diabetic please check with your doctor before using.

Enjoy! Let me know how this works for you. My feet are looking better already.

More Pictures Needed

I got a call from the Breast and Pelvic Health Center today and the radiologist would like to have more pictures - evidently they saw something in my mammogram that they didn't like. I have an appointment at 8:30 on Thursday and will know the results before I leave. I didn't ask specific questions when the nurse called and I'll get more info on Thursday.

Those words struck fear in my heart but I know that 90% of the time it turns out to be nothing. It's just that I have so many people I know with breast cancer and that's the first place that my mind goes.

My friend Kim emailed me tonight to ask if I was ok. I said yes I am because I now that whether it turns out to be nothing or something, God is in control. I would certainly appreciate your prayers and will post an update on Thursday.

Hugs,
Kay

Mourning Doves

I have two Mourning Doves living in the big pine tree across the street from my house. (This is not my picture - they are too far away and move to fast for me to get one). I noticed them the other day and was so excited. I just love doves and love to hear the cooing call of the male. That sound always reminds me of being back home in IL, going out in the early morning, and hearing that sound.

It is a simple joy to watch for them each day. This morning the male was doing his best to show off for his lady friend but she was having no part of it. She'd fly to the telephone wire just in front of the tree and he'd fly to join her. Then he would coo to her, scoot over closer, and she'd move away. Mourning Doves do mate for life so I'm assuming that they are "husband and wife". Maybe he didn't take out the trash like she asked or was late to dinner?? Maybe she's upset for whatever reason a wife can get ticked at her hubby? Whatever it was, she was not a happy camper. After Mr. Dove followed her from wire to wire and bush to bush for about 10 minutes she got fed up and flew off. I felt badly for him as he sounded so pretty when he was talking to her and he was doing his best to make up. Maybe he needed to ply her with more than a coo - perhaps some Dove chocolates! (Sorry - I just couldn't resist.)

When I go outside this evening just before dark I'll be able to tell if they have kissed and made up. Stay tuned; more dove reports to follow.

Click here to hear their coo (you'll have to click the back button on your browser to come back to my blog).

Thank you!

Thank you so much for praying! I got into both of my classes! Thank God!!

Kay

Prayer Request

I am registering for my summer classes tomorrow morning. Both of the classes that I need are on the schedule and are on the same days. It is hard to get into medical office classes due to the number of people going into that field. Would you please pray that I am able to get into both of those classes?

The Lord has been so faithful to me during the whole process of getting registered, getting financial aid, and helping me to absorb all that I'm learning. God is good!!!

Praising In The Storm

I've had a stormy day today. God knew what I needed to hear and it blessed my soul. I hope it will bless yours as well.

Prom Pictures

My baby girl, Stephany, went to Prom tonight! She got invited by her friend, Marcus, who is a senior. They just looked so cute! I think I was more excited than she was. It just reminded me of my high school prom days and all the fun of getting dressed up, going out to dinner, and feeling like a Princess. I almost cried!!
