Christmas Cards

I miss getting Christmas cards. I know that it's expensive and it is so much easier to send an electronic card.  But there is something so personal about receiving a card in the mail.  You know that the person that sent it took time to fill out the cards, buy the stamps and go to the post office to mail them.  I will admit that I don't send cards anymore either.

Not so very long ago, and especially when I was growing up, it was exciting to go to the mailbox in December.  I'd see all these brightly colored envelopes and could hardly wait to open them to see who they were from.  Sometimes there would be a letter inside telling all about that has happened in the sender's life in the last year.  We would take the cards and tape them around the dining room door frame.  It would be fun to see if we could get enough cards to go around the whole frame by the time Christmas came.

A few years ago I started putting the cards that I received in a basket on the coffee table.  Then, when Christmas was over, we'd take one card each day and pray for the person and/or family that sent it.  I miss doing that.

I am going to send cards next year.  Today I thought that if I set aside a little money each month then the expense of sending cards wouldn't be so bad when next Christmas rolls around.  I want to personalize Christmas again, even if it's just from my little corner of the world.

Hugs,
Kay

PS  I just checked the mail that came today and I got 2 cards.  One from my sister and one from my dear friend Elodie.  It made my day!!!

What a great idea, to take a card each day and pray for the sender. I love getting Christmas carts, and I love sending them out.

My parents were very faithful in sending out Christmas cards and my father took the time to write something special to each and every person he sent cards to. I am even more appreciating the fact that my father was such a good and faithful letter writer. You're right, electronic cards are nice, but there is something so very special about a Christmas card someone sends us, one they actually chose, signed, maybe wrote a line or more in, stamped, and mailed...to ME !Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family.

I am one of those who loves to send and receive Christmas cards. With stamps always rising in price it does get more expensive each year. But I still love to do it. I spread it out during the month so we don't have to buy tons of stamps at once. International cards get sent at the beginning of December, local cards get sent closer to Christmas.

The best time to but cards is after Christmas when stores put them on sale. I like Target's boxed card selection, I found some nice rustic ones this year and last year. And next year I plan to buy a book of stamps every other month so we aren't spending December money on them.

I don't send electronic Christmas cards (I rarely send any e-cards.)

This is a great time of year to reconnect with old friends and all our family. I love to send cards and get cards from so many we do not see regularly. I love the idea of praying over the names on the cards. I too, love to check the mail in Decemeber. By the way, at our church, we have a box that you can drop cards in for folks in the church. Saves stamps1 Each person can check the box and pick any cards they may have. Have a great Christmas and enjoy your cards! Blessings!

I always send cards, but find I get less and less each year. Makes me sad. I figure a card and stamp really are a small expense to let friends and family I love them. I think we 'real christmas card senders' are a dying breed. Hang in there girls!!!
